Ron
began his broadcast career with WNAC-TV, (channel 7) in the film department
in June of 1967. The following summer, through 1969, "I became a WRKO news correspondent,
reporting on prison breaks and train crashes, etc. and also reported the NASCAR
results from Norwood. I also answered the RKO hitline. In the fall of 1969,
the Air Force came knocking. After the Air Force (in 1973), I returned home,
went to Curry College and re-joined WRKO News in late '74-75." (The photo to
your right is of Ron in 1975)Channel 7 (downstairs from WRKO radio) asked Ron to return, and Ron accepted the job for the next six years. In 1981, he was re-hired by WRKO, then a talk station, as a news anchor. That lasted until 1994. In 1996, Ron was hired by Metro, to do news for various Boston stations. Ron is still doing that, today. According to Ron:
"Dale Dorman was fun to work with...always up. Ditto with J.J. Jeffrey. Shadoe was the good-looking guy with the great voice ready to make a move to KHJ. He was easy to work with. I stopped by KHJ in the summer of '70 and got the buck and a half tour from him. That's when he was signed on to do weekends."
"Chuck Knapp worked a shift opposite of mine, so I really never knew him. Gary Martin was pretty laid back. Joel Cash kinda kept to himself. Johnny Williams was just coming on board when the Air Force was calling me (to avoid being drafted). It was tough to leave the station at the height of its popularity. Bobby Mitchell (Frank Kingston Smith) was always upbeat...and on. It was kinda funny watching him and J. J. doing New England Dragway spots...."Sunday, Sunday" and see who could yell the loudest!"
"News-wise.... Bill Rossi was a peach...sounded great, super chemistry with Dale...enjoyed a good laugh. John Masters was the consummate professional, concise and conscientious."
